History

The Montana Home and Community Care Act, I-159, was a ballot initiative introduced under the ruse of expanding home health services. The initiative was opposed by the Montana Independent Living Project, the Montana Health Care Association, and AARP Montana.  After it faced strong opposition, the initiative was withdrawn.

SEIU quickly worked to collect signatures to have this added as a ballot proposal in the 2008 elections.

In June of 2008, SEIU withdrew pulled the initiative saying it was "complicated." They were later found guilty of violating campaign finance laws with regards to this proposal.

They have not given up and say they will work to have this passed legislatively.
